Former Head of Research & Development at 3M Company Joins Biopolymer Engineering as Scientific Advisor


EAGAN, MN – October 28, 2002 – William Coyne, Ph.D., a scientist and business leader widely recognized as a driving force behind 3M innovation, has joined Biopolymer Engineering, Inc. as a member of its Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Coyne retired in 2000 as Senior Vice President, Research and Development for 3M Company. During his tenure as senior architect of 3M's R&D, the company invested more than $1 billion a year in research that resulted in a significant increase in new product development and revenue. He is a frequent speaker on the culture and dynamics of innovation.

“We are pleased to welcome Bill to the Biopolymer Engineering team,” said Daniel Conners, founder and chairman. “His counsel and expertise will be invaluable as we develop our patented technologies into new drugs and other products.”

Biopolymer Engineering is focused on developing its carbohydrate technologies into pharmaceuticals that significantly enhance the efficacy of traditional and immunotherapeutic cancer treatments. The company is also developing products to help the body respond to the effects of radiation and chemotherapy by stimulating the production of blood cells.

During his 32-year career at 3M, Dr. Coyne held numerous positions, including President and General Manager of 3M Canada and Group Vice President of 3M’s Health Care Products and Medical Products Groups. Dr. Coyne has a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Toronto. He has a doctorate in Organic Chemistry from the University of Virginia.
