Research and Development
Biothera is pioneering carbohydrate research for therapeutic applications. The company has significant internal research and development capabilities. Our chemistry and biology groups are working to advance our knowledge of our compounds and continue to generate additional intellectual property.
Chemistry Group
Biothera is a world leader in carbohydrate chemistry. Beta glucans are extraordinarily complex with innumerable combinations glucose molecules chained together in varying lengths, branches and conformational structures. Slight variations in molecular structure affect biological activity. Biothera’s Chemistry Group is a worldwide leader in the characterization of these carbohydrates, which has led to the discovery of new molecules with pharmaceutical applications. This expertise also enables consistent manufacturing of biologic drugs.
Biology Group
The Biology Group at Biothera focuses on human immunology and how its numerous cells and signaling patterns create responses to disease. We are a leader in innate immunology, specifically the interaction of innate immune cells and carbohydrates like beta glucan, and how immune cell function can be enhanced or altered. Biothera continues to research new applications for these unique molecules to prevent or treat disease.
